THE WAITARA MEETING.

(PER PRESS AGENCY.) Waitara, Saturday. The meeting was continued at noon to-day. Rewi said in order to give everything a fair understanding, and to make things clear, he would speak nothing but the truth : “ I want Waitara. This is my word, and this is why I told you to meet me here." Sir G. Grey : X give you a fair understanding. Waitara is iu our hands. Rewi :I am ageeeable to your words. Both our hands are now taken off our heads, and my question is answered. Natives and Europeans of Waitara, —Be not atraid ; stay quiet. Sir George Grey and .myself are here, and I will not go away till this question is settled. At the conclusion of the meeting, Rewi said : To-day our bodies have been joined together; but our laws have yet to be made. It will be understood by this that Rewi anticipates getting a seat in the Upper House, when the question of Waitara, &c., can be discussed. 2.30 p.m. A tremendous squall has just passed-over Waitara, lifting one section of wooden buildings, 300 ft. long, clean off the ground. The buildings are completely levelled, and parts of them are burning from the fires lighted inside. A great number of Maoris were inside at the time, but no one was hurt. The weather is frightfully squally at present, and there is no appearance of it abating. The steamer Hauraki has been weatherbound since Monday.
