COMMUNISM IN AMERICA.

The New Yorle Tribune has an editorial on the recent Communistic outcroppings, closing thus :—“We do not believe it can over be the ruling power in the United States, but it can easily become the tyrant iu certain localities—the raining districts of Pennsylvania, the turbulent city of San Francisco, and some other regions ; and whenever the flame of insurrection breaks out, we in New York can hardly escape attack. It is well to look at tho situation carefully, and to consider how wo shall meet it ; above all, how we shall awake iu our children the conservative religious sentiment which animated our fathers.” A Communistic society has just been discovered in Parkersburg. It has between 500 and GOO members, and is officered and drilled. The members are reticent. The meetings are secret. Other societies exist in the State. An American journal has the following : The growth of Communism in this country seems to he rapid, aud is really becoming so alarming that law and order elements would do well to take decided action in opposition to its further spread. It was but the other day that the New York World, the leading democratic newspaper iu the United States, gave a graphic and startling description of a Communist settlement iu the principal commercial city of the country.! The individuals to whom that journal referred were all foreign refugees and French professional revolutionists, who are working night and day with the moat unremitting zeal to propagate their mischievous doctrines, and inaugurate bloodshed in the country of their adoption. They are reported to bo thoroughly organised, and to maintain regular correspondence with Communists all over the world. They are described as “ the reddest of red Republicans, professional revolutionists, as implacable enemies to the Government under which they now live as they were under the Imperial, and, more recently, to the Republican Government in Franco.” Not only are they in communication with tho revolutionary element in European countries, but claim to have organisations in many portions, of the United States, and profess to , already possess . great power for harm, and are sanguine in. the belief that the day is not far distant which will afford them the desired opportunity to assert their power —a power which is not designed to help mankind, but rather : to carry dismay to the human race. Revolution aud bloodshed aro the cardinal principles of the wicked, dangerous, law-defying clement. They seek not to build up, but rather to destroy, and hope by the use of the faggot and tho sword to deal devastation and death whenever aud wheVaver they find themselves strong enough to carry out their fiendish designs. A Chicago despatch of the 25th instant conveys tho information that great interest is manifested in the movement of‘ Communists in that city. It is reported that they are actively at work drilling and arming with breecli-londing .rifles. “Upon .being questioned, ; they profess that they are preparing for future emergencies, but say they will act merely in self-defence, and will not foment disorder. There are about 8000 of them in this country, aud it is stated that Iron 1000 to 2000 are armed aud drilled weekly.” These imaginary emergencies will readily ho found to be real .ones as soon as a the .evil-designing, bloodthirsty scoundrels think they aro ready to" meet them. ;Undor Kearney's, directions military organ!-

aations have been formed in San Francisco, and while members of these- (political) companies are drilling, their chief and leader, Kearney, endeavors*, in a small way, perhaps, to place himself in fall accord with the Pari* Commune in getting into trouble with the Church authorities. Edward Mugy, the French Communist and murderer, voluntarily assisted in the assassination, of Archbishop Darboy, while Kearney has thus far contented himself with verbal abuse of Archbishop Alemany. There is only one attitude for citizens who prefer law and order to Communism and anarchy to assume, and that is to unitedly set their faces against the threatening evil, and ofToctnuUy prevent it gaining anything like a -strong foothold on Am -riom si].
