GREAT SALE OF DIAMOND JEWELLERY IN MELBOURNE.

(From the Sydney Momiivj Herald.) The sale of Dr. Boaney’s diamonds, estimated at £15,000 value, took place at the Melbourne Athenreum recently, and the whole realised about £IO,OOO. The auctioneer stated that all ivereguaranteed Braziliandiamonds, and that nothing would be offered which was not lona fide Dr. Beaney’s. By far the most important lot was the chain of diamonds, which was said to have cost £SOOO in itself. This went for £1550 to Mr. Solcborg. Next came a magnificent chain of gold and diamonds, with a pendant representing a pencil case of rubies and diamonds. Mr- Nathan was the purchaser for £370, tho cost being stated at £IOOO. Following this in _ value was a diamond ring, throe diamonds (eighteen carats), knocked down for £3OO to Mr. Dennis, the original cost having been £7OO. Two more diamond rings, which each cost £6OO, went to the same purchaser for £2lO each. A gold snuff-box, with the doctor’s monogram in diamonds, fetched £47, the cost being £l7O, and Mr. Brown, sen., builder, was tho purchaser. Mr. Solcberg bought, for £205 each, two solitaires and a neck stud, all uniform with basket

gold work, and very large single diamonds, the cost having been £6OO each. Mr. Watson, of Sandhurst, got a remarkably nice gold chain, imitation rope, for £29, the gold alone being worth £2B at per weight, and I)r. Beaney had given over £IOO for this article. Tho rings were put up us the doctor’s favorites, being those he commonly wore together on one finger. They are respectively diamond, diamond and sapphire, and diamond and emerald. Tho lot went for £7B, which the dealers present said was very cheap. A gold square locket, with a most beautiful diamond, fetched £IOO. Another had multifarious little diamonds in a star, and a large assortment of rings and studs wore all disposed of. The rings numbered over 30, nearly all with diamonds.
