An unfortunate man named John Livingstone was charged on remand with suspected lunacy, and was again remanded for a week. ASSAULT. John Colvin, on remand, was charged with assaulting a little girl named Annie Edwards. Several witnesses were called on behalf of the prisoner, and spoke in high terms of his general good behavior. Mr. Crawford said from the evidence there appeared to be a doubt in the case. It had been proved that the prisoner caught hold of the child’s arm and dragged her along. It, however, appeared to him that it was done in a drunken fit, and he would discharge the prisoner, hoping at the same time that it would act as a caution to him. CIVIL CASES. In the following cases judgments were given for the plaintiffs for tne amounts claimed and costs :—Paul’s trustees v. Page; claim, 10s. 2d. Gear v. Jones ; claim, £5 Os. sd. Brittain v. Mclntosh ; claim, £1 9s. 9d.
