The question of connecting Karori with Wellington hy a branch railway, which was mooted some time ago, is again being considered, we understand, by] owners and occupiers of property near the proposed line of route. The cost, we believe, of carrying the line to a point at Karori distant about four miles from town is estimated, in round numbers, at £30,000, which sum, it is said, could be easily raised. From an engineering point of view there are, we believe, no unsurmountable difficulties to contend with, and but for the fact that Karori stands at a much higher elevation above the sea level than Wellington, there would really be no difficulty whatever. The construction of this line would no doubt lead land-owners in the Karori-Malcara District to cut up their properties in many cases into smaller holdings, and promote the progress and settlement of the district. A good deal of the land at Karori is reputed to be peculiarly well adapted for the manufacture of bricks, for which there is likely to be a constantly increasing demand here for many years to come, and the close proximity to town renders it a most desirable locality for small settlers. If connected with town by railway a great stimulus would be added to the district, and increased value given to laud in the neighborhood. From what we hear, it is probable that further action will be taken in the matter, with a view to the accomplishment of the work as soon as possible.

One piece of gossip which has been current respecting the Waitara meeting is that Titoko Warn has intimated that it is not his intention to be present at it. It was rumored yesterday that Mr. Thomson, Surveyor-Greneral of the colony, had resigned that office. Mr. Jackson, the officer in charge of the Wellington District, was mentioned as Mr. Thomson’s probable successor.
