Edwin*, The clipper ship Pleione, which we reported in yesterday's issue, arrived off the Heads last night, and was boarded 1 by Pilot Kelly. She was, however, unable to. make tba harbor last night, but will most probably arrive-all safe to-day. According to English papers, she left London on the 26th February, anchored in the Downs on the 27th, and left again on tho 2nd March ; was off Portland on the 4th, and Start Point the following day, when she landed the pilot. No doubt her lengthened has resulted through strong head, winds from the Capo of Good Hope. The steamer Wellington arrived here yesterday morning from Picton at half-past ft. She left Nelson at 3 p.m. on Tuesday, and arrived, at Picton at midnight ; loft again shortly afterwards, and arrived here as above. Experienced fine weather throughout the trip. The a.s. Stormbird, afte* being bar-bound at Wanganui since Saturday, arrived in harbor shortly before 6 o’clock yesterday morning. She left Wanganui at 4 30 p.m. on Tuesday, crossed the bar an hoar later, and reached boro m above. Strong westerly winds were experienced on tho passage up. She left again shortly before 2 o'clock in the afternoon on her return trip. The steamer Wanganui has hauled in to the breastw.oi;k for repairs. The barque Carlota, for Newcastle, left yesterday afternoon, with light westerly breeze. The barque Cralgmullen discharged her powder yesterday morning, and was thoa shifted from the outer anchorage to a berth at the pier. She will break bulk this morning. The two colliers Edwin Basscttand Anne Melhuish both cleared at the and will sail for Newcastle to-day. The repairs to the wharf are going on apace. On the left-hand side the planking Is all down, and considerably more. Boom is made for traffic. -The opposite side i,T expected to be planked towards the end of this week. The following report concerning the stoaraer Beautiful Star Is from the Dunedin Herald of the 22nd : “Xhe Beautiful Star left here for Timaru at 7 p.m. bat Thursday, the wind being light northerly. All went well until off Waitakl at 4 a.m. yesterday, when the breeze, which had been freshening, increased to a heavy gale, raising a high.sea which, meeting the S.E. set, created a very high and dangerous cross sea. She was kept at it—the wind still increasing—until 28*miles from Timaru, when the barquentine George Noble was descried standing off shore, having had* to run from the anchorage at Timaru. As it was evident that if the roadstead were made she would be unable \o Ue there, Captain Peterson headed her back, and arrived oif the bar about 4 o'clock. Do picking up th.i? beacon ■ he stood in and made very good weather, in spite of the heavy break, the two. first sees being negotiated cleverly. The next, roller—a regular comber—came over her stern, a mass of green water, smashed the wheel, carrying op,o of the men who was steering away, smashed the.binnacle, ths remains of which, with those of the steward's cupboard, wore found r»ght forward, having been swept through the nlley-way up to tbs- steam winch. The signal gun broke away from its lashings, the engine-room skylight was stovo In, a quantity of water finding its way below, and tho, cabins on deck were half idled with water. r i,’hc topgallant rail on both sides waa smashed, and tfic deck was flooded. The old Star, staggered by the blow, almost stopped, aad another sea, had it struck her, might have, boon the came of a dire disaster; but a temporarajry lull gave her time, to get Into safety, and sha steamed up to the railway pier." The barque Wermington, from Home, with this railway plant: for the Wanganui railway, arrived In harbor in. tow of the Government steamer Stella. last pigiit, anjlmoored in the outer anchorage. Sb.u has mj'de a passage of 105 days, and has experkmccd a fiuccccssion of gales : but beyond losing a wmber of sails no damage was done. Captain EaAoQ reports having left Cardiff on the 9tb March, with light head winds. Thrf ordinary trade winds were light, and of short duration. After passing the iahajMl of Tristan u'Acunha, fell in with a fearful galCilrom the east- ! ward, during which several sails woror blown clean ' away. She ran her easting down bel-r.tr.au the parallels of 44 and 45. Moderate weather,, with occasional heavy squalls, were experienced unHl making Tasmania. From this point gale a?Scr gale was encountered, principally from N.NASL. The first land sighted was Cape Foulwind. and which was passed on Monday night, and Capo Farewell the following day. When abreast of Wellington Head, she was taken in tow by the Stella, and anchored as above. It is doubtful whether the Wenniagton will come to the wharf, as all her cargo will have to be transhipped. The Government steamer Stella, which left hero on Tuesday night for the purpose of rendering if possible any assistance to the stranded ship Hyderabad, returned to harbor last night at 8 o’clock. She arrived off the ship at 9 o'clock yesterday morning ; but owing if* the heavy 8. W. wind and tremendous . ground swell, no communication could be held with the stranded vessel. Cnptain McKersle, finding ho could render no assistance, deemed it advisable to return. When the Stella left, the Hyderabad was

quite upright, as though she were afloat, atitl appeared to have found a bottom in the sand. _Her sails were for the most part hanging loose and W fags. About 40 or 50 people were seen on the beach. On the return trip the Stella passed the Pleione, under full sail, to windward of Kapltl. On arriving Off the Heads saw the barque Wennington, and subsequently towed her in. Captain Bendall, who went round in her, considers the Hyderabad uninjured, and that it seemed to him that the crew had loft her in a great hurry, as a number of her sails were loose and hanging about the rigging. It has been considered expedient to hold a survey as early as possible. Captain Bendall, therefore, accompanied by Captain Scott and another surveyor, leave by the coach this morning for that purpose, so that they may make such recommendations as they think expedient under the circumstances. The ship is believed to be Insured for £16,000, and the freight for £2600. It is not known whether the cargo is insured or not. The steamers Go-Ahead for Wanganui and the Kiwi for Flaxbourno both left last night. The schooner Spec is at anchor inside the Heads. She got as far as Kaikoura, and had to run back in consequence of the heavy weather.
