The ship Pleione, from London, was spoken by the steamer Jane Douglas at anchor under Kaplti. She reports all well, and may be expected here some time today. Wnen the Jano Douglas was passing Kapati last night the brigantine Emma Jane was at anchor there. The Union Company's steamer Wanaka left Port Chalmers at 3.30 p.m. on the- 22nd, and arrived at Lyttelton on the following morning at 0.43; left again on the evening of the 24th at half-past 6, and arrived here at noon yesterday. The topsail schooner Pelican, with a cargo of gram from Oamaru. arrived in harbor at an early hour yeatenlav morning, and dating the fore oon hauled in to Pliramer's wharf, where she will discharge her cargo. She reports leaving the Oamaru roadstead on Friday evening, and made a fine run to Cape Campbell of 30 hours. Westerly weather then set in, and detained her beating a*)out until reaching the Heads yesterday morning, when sue got a slant and sailed in aa above. The steamer Go- Ahead arrived at the wharf yesterday afternoon at half-past 3 o’clock, after a most boiiterou? passage from Napier. She reports leaving at half-past 1 o’clock on Saturday morning, and anchored under the Kidnappers the same afternoon at half-past 1. with a strong southerly gale and heavy sea. Left th-re at midnight, and arrived at Fourere at daylight on Monday morning. Succeeded in getting off two rafts of tallow, when the wind and sei increased to such an extent that she had to leave Strong westerly winds were then experienced to Cr.pi Falliser. When off here her fore-and-a t canvas wa: split to ribbons, and she was kept d >dging under Cap* PalJiser until yesterday morning, when tha weathei moderated and she continued her course* arriving here a* above. The schooner Young Dick, bound for Lyttelton, left the wha f ye-terday afternoon, and got clear of ths Heads before dark. The steamer Wanaka sails for Auckland, via the East Coast, to-day. The brigantine Hannah Broomfield, from Kaipara, arrived in harbor yesterday afternoon, after a rough passage along the coast, she reports leaving Kaipari list Thursday with a strong westerly breeze, which at midnight increased to a perfect gale, with a tremendous sea. Passed Capo Kgraont on Monday morning, and made Stevens island the same evening, when the weather showed signs of breaking. Tha lull, however, was only of short duration. When passing Cape Kgmont she shipped a heavy sea in the wals*-, which Hooded the decks and broke away her port bulwarks. From rftsvens 1-land to arrival the wind was chiefly from the westward. Sighted the schooner Sarah Pile on Sunday morning hove to 59 miles to the westward of Cape Kaglio. Also saw the schooner Torea, bound to ICaipara. The Hannah Broomlield brings a full cargo of sawn timber, and will commence to discharge to-day. The steamer Kiwi arrived in harbor at 11 o’clock yesto’.day morning. Sholeffc Napier at noon on Sunday, but was forced to seek shelter unucr leeward ol the Kidnappers for three hours, on account of the rough weather. On arriving off Castlepoint found too much sea on to do any work, and her head was turned towards Wellington, where she arrived as above. Captain Campbell reports a heavy sea on the coast. The American barque G. M. Tucker, from New York, arrived In Port Chalmers on the 21st instant. The greater portion of her cargo is for Wellington. The barquentino Mercury, from New York, with part cargo for Wellington, arrived in Port Chalmers list Monday, after a passage of 98 days. The steamer Manawatu wag towed round from the Patent Slip yesterday afternoon by the steamer Rangatira. She haa been newly coppered and undergone a thorough overhaul. The steamer St, Hilda, from Lyttelton, arrived here last evening at half-past six o'clock, and experienced heavy sea and westerly winds across. The barque Cralgrnullen, which has beea standing off and on the Heads since Sunday, was safely moored In harbor last night. Captain Gordacd*. who is a stranger in these waters, "referred giving the Heals a wide berth, as the weather was anything but pleasant and the winds not at all favorable. Besides this there was on unday a very heavy sea running outside, and an there was every appearance of stormy weather the Cralghmullen's head was turned away from the herbor. Pilot Holmes on Sunday afternoon launched his boat and started in pursuh of her, but Captain Gordard did not see him. and, as we said before, squared away from the land. Hie Cralgrnullen Is comparatively speaking a new ship, this only being her thlr • voyage The first was to Valparaiso, and the second to .San Francisco. She is a smart handsome looking vessel, and has arrived In harbor the picture of neatness both aloft and below. From her log-book we cull the follow ng particulars regarding her somewhat protracted passage;—She left London on tin 26th February, and tho chops of the Channel on tkn 2nd March, having had to beat all tho way down against a strong head wind. Tho Lizard light wai rounded on the 6th at 11 p.m; light and variable weather then set in principally from the westward. Moderate weather was then experienced fxom> the N. 15. as far as Tuscan. Tho Equator was crossed or the 3rd April in 29£deg. west, with Vt-ry light airs The trade winds were also light, anti picked up In 2dog. south, and lost again In 13dog. The meridian of Greenwich was passed on the Cth May in 40dog. south ; tho Cap** of Good Hope was- passed on the 10th May in Udeg.; Bt. Paul’s Rocks on tho 3rd April, and Martin Vas on the 14th. Had westerly weather from thenco until making Tasmania. Home idea of tho lightness of the wind: may be Imagined when the ship only made 28dcg. of longitude ir fifteen diys. The first of the New Zealand coast sighted was the extreme end* of the Middle Island on 2l»t, and arrived off the, Heads, as already reported, last Sunday The only ship sighted on the voyage out was tho barque Ann Annytage on tho 27th March, bound to Falmouth from Western Australia, in 5 44<leg. north and 25*43 west. The Cralgrnullen w as taken in tow of tho Luna last evening about live miles off tho land, and anchored in tha powdei ground at half-past six. She has besides a largo cargo of valuable merchandise, 21 kegs of gunpowder. T ds Is expected to be put out to-day. when she will probably haul in to the wharf. Her imports were published in Mon ay’s paper. COMMERCIAL.
