THE WAITARA MEETING.
(from odr own correspondent.) New Plymouth, Tuesday. The meeting with Rewi is again postponed. There has been continuous rain all day. William King has not put in an appearance. Rewi visited Sir George Grey to-day, and an interchange of civilities took place. I learn on very good authority that Sir George Grey’s presence here is not of Rowi’s seeking ; that these constant delays are pimply a polite refusal to deal with the Government; that Rewi's intention was to hold a meeting with the native chiefs, which meeting will come off when the Government party has gone. (PER PRESS AGENCY.) Waitaha, Tuesday. At one o'clock, Rewi accompanied by a number of chiefs, hearing that Sir George Grey was not well, went to his quarters. Sir George Grey was sitting by the fireside suffering from a heavy cold, the inclement weather disagreeing with him. Friendly interchanges took place. The meeting was purely a private one, Natives only being present. It was then arranged that owing to the weather and the non-arrival of the Parehaka natives the meeting should be deterred till the next day. Each side expressed a wish for William King to be present. He is expected to-morrow. After remaining half-aa-hour Rewi left on this understanding. Special messengers have been despatched north and south to hurry up visitors for the nseting.
