The following are the duties collected at the Customs on Saturday:—
MELBOURNE WOOL MARKET. Messrs. K Go’dsbrongh and Co , of Melbourne, la their monthly circular, dated June 10, report as follows:—Wool.--During the mon'h further consignments of wool from the Darling have been received, and at our auction sale on the 20th ult. we disposed of 1042 bales at prices which fully sustain last month’s quotation*, com etitlon being well maintained. In all 1050 bales have been offered and 1540 bales sold since our summary of the 13th ult. We realised 10Jd for two c’ips of scoured, and BJd for one clip of 161 bales greasy in heavy condition. The English advices are on the whole satisfactory, considering the continued unsettled aspect of the Eastern Question, and the generally depressed st-tte of trade in the manufactur ng districts. The London sales opened on the 14th ult. with a full attendance of buyers, but prices showed a reduction of abo .t Id per lb. on the rates ruling in February and March. Since then an improvement has been reported, a firmer toie being manifest; but rids is scarcely evidenced by the prices realised for a number of well-known clips, the decline being, wo think, to quite the above extent on the average. The deficiency in the shipments of wool fro a this colony to date is 32.408 bales, and there is also a deficiency in the exports from New South Wales. South \ustra’ia, and Queensland, thus confirming the e>timates wo made in February and March, This large fal’ing off in the supply, instead of the usual annual increase, should exercise a favorable effect on the succeeding sales of the year; and, if peace is established in Europe, which now seems almost certain, it is reasonable to expect a revival in trade, and c n n equently an improved demand for wool. Our advices from the up-country districts continue favorable on the whole. Throughout the greater portion of ti»® Riverine d strict there is an abundance of feed and water, and stock are in excellent condition, the fleeces being we l ! grown and sound, and the laiablng, so far, giving a full percentage of increase. In other distrl ts more rain is wanted, the fall having bee 1 ’ insufficient; but a general break-up in the weather may now be looked for. the winter having commenced. Freights to London continue at same rates, greasy being at §d. and washed at Jrt per lb. Exchange is at par for drafts at GO days’ s’ght on London. Sheepskins.—This market has been very steady dur ing the mouth, and we have disposed of a full supply to the local fellraongers • t about similar prices to those ruling at the date of our last circular, allowance being made for the extra growth of staple. The local fellmongers purchase the hoik of the skins at the following quotations, viz-:—Full-woolled merino, shorn, seven to nine months, 3s Cd to 5s 3d each ; ordinary skins. 2s 6d toSa Gel each ; cross-bred, 4s to Cs each ; station skins, dry, 3d to 5d per lb; superior do, 6d to Tdperlh. Hides continue to be in fair demand at rather lower prices than have been lately ruling, the decline in value *eing most noticeable in salted par els. We have dispose 1 of an average quantity as folows: —Now Zealand heavy weights, up to per lb ; wetsalted Victorian, 3d to 4d per lb ; ox hides, 18s to 30s each; cow-hides. 2.1-d to 3d per lb. according to weight: calfskins, 3d per lb. Tallow.—At our weekly sales we have sold 594 casks at rather lower prices, and there is every prospect of a further decline unless the Home market improves. As shippers cannot operate at p-e----sent rates all offering is taken by the local manufacturers a* the following rices Superior mutton, u■» to £33 10s. f.0.h.; ordinary quality mutton. £32 to £33; beef, £3O to £32; mixed and inferior, £2O to £3l per ton. Freights to London are 35s to 40s per ton.
