WAIRARAPA AND EAST COAST PASTORAL AND AGRICULTURAL ASSOCIATION.

(by telegraph.) (prom our own correspondent.) Carterton, Friday, The annual meeting of the Wairarapa and East Coast Pastoral and Agricultural Association was held at the Marquis of Normanby Hotel to-day. The President, Mr. Pharazyn, opened the meeting by reading the advertisement and circulars convening it. Mr. Pharazyn was unanimously re-elected president, and Mr. Win. Beetham vice president, vice Mr. Ballance repigued. As five of tho committee retire each year by ballot, the vote was then taken, and Messrs. Bidwell,Kempton junr., Morrison, Moore, and Tailored were announced as the retiring gentlemen, Messrs. Moore, James Donald, Kempton: junr., B.dwell, Booth, Payton, and Telford were nominated for new committee men, and as Messrs. Booth and Payton wished to retire, the other five were declared elected. The balance sheet was then read, which showed a balance in hand of £72, and was adopted.. The committee on the selection of a site for the association reported that after considering a number of offers, they would recommend the purchase of a block offered by Messrs. Booth and Bennett, containing about eleven acres, and situated within a hundred yards of the proposed railway-station, and bounded on three sides by public roads, at the rate of £6O per acre, which amount might stand at interest. at the rate of 8 per cent., for seven years. After a little discussion, the report was adopted unanimously. The certificates of merit used by the association were not considered good enough for first prizes, and it was therefore resolved that the winners of first prizes should.have the option of having either the medals, plate, or cash, and that the certificates be used for second prizes.

This concluded the business, and the meeting then adjourned. A meeting of the committee was held afterwards, when Messrs. Buchanan, H, McMaster, Lister-Kaye, and Booth were appointed a subcommittee for clearing and preparing the grounds for the next show. A subscription list was then opened for this purpose, and £l2O was subscribed in the room. It is expected that upwards of £SOO will be raised. The sub-committee of last year for the horse show was re-elected.
