NEWS BY CABLE.
The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company (Limited) have received the following telegram, dated London, June 18.
Wool competition is increasing, and quotations are on an average from a half-penny to a penny better than at the opening. The principal advance has been in scoured. Crossbred is firmer, and the Continental demand is good. Up to date 196,000 bales have been sold. The tallow market is quiet. Beef, 375, 6d. per owt.; mutton, 38s. 6d. per owt. Stocks of all sorts aro 18,000 casks. The wheat market is flat. Tho weather is unfavorable for the crop here. Adelaide wheat is worth 535. per 4961b5.; New Zealand, 465. do. Tho leather market is flat. Three thousand sides of Australasian have been sold since lost report; 400 best sides fetched 9Jd. fREUTER'S SPECIAL 10 PRESS AGEECV.) AUSTRALIAN NEWS. Melbourne, Thursday. The Arawata sailed to-day with the English mails. Sydney, Thursday. Mr. Burns, the Postmaster-General, left by the Zealaudia on business connected with the Cable Conference.
