Shortly after leaving shy encountered heavy easterly gales, and threw* overboard 15,000 slates. She experienced a succession of heavy gales and sea during the passage. Barometer rising generally. li. A. Ed win. The southerly wind which set in on Monday night and- lasted all ••yesterday brought la a-number of coasting 'crafts, also two .colliers from Newcastle. To-day we may expect several other vessels. Probably some of the Horae ships may bo heard of, as two of them are now overdue. There are also some from Now York which should now be dose at hand. The s.s. Taupo left Pert Chalmers for Akaroa at 4p,m. on Saturday, and arrived at Otago Heads at •1,-10 p.m., where-she was compelled to anchor for several hours, owing to the danger signal being hoisted ; left the Heads on Sunday at 1.30 a ra., with foggy weather and a heavy beam aca; arrived at Akaroa the same night at 7.30 p.m., and arrived at Lyttelton at 7.39 the next morning; left again tho same evening at 5.30, and arrived in Wellington at it yesterday morning. The ketch Ocean Bird, from Kaiapoi, arrived at the Heads on Monday night. Yesterday forenoon she came up. the harbor, and during the afternoon hauled in to the breastwork, She left Kaiapoi last Wednesday, and on Friday had to anchor under Muttonhau Island in consequence of a strong easterly gale. Left there again on Friday night, and arrived hero as above. Headwinds with heavy sea were experienced throughout the trip. She brings a full cargo of colonial produce, and will commence discharging to-day. Tho barque Edwin Bassett, with another cargo of black diamonds, consigned to Captain Williams, arrived in harbor yesterday morning, and shortly afterwards hauled in to the wharf. She left Newcastle on the 7th instant with a light northerly wind. On the following* day strong westerly weather set in, which was carried till making the land. Cape Farewell was sighted .on Sunday morning at 4 o’clock ; Stephen’s Island was passed , the same evening at 8 p.rn ; Cape Jackson was rounded at midnight, when the wind shifted to the 8.E., wtycli enabled her to sail in as above. The as. Kennedy-arrived at the wharf at 9.30 this : morning from Nelson,.which port she left at 8.30 p.m, . on Monday. Fine weather was experienced as far as Terawitf, from thence strong south-east wind, with a heavy cross sea. The schooner Ruby, with another cargo of produce from Kaikoura, arrived in harbor at 11-fum. yesterday. Bho left on Monday night, and had a strong south-easter all tho way up. At 3 yesterday morning parsed the Tul off FJaxbonrne. The ketch Emerald, from.Lyttelton, arrived in harbor late on Monday night. She left on Sunday at 8 a.rn. with a lighj southerly wind, which lasted to arrival. She bring* colonial produce, which will bo fy'scjiarged at the breastwork. The schooner Spec commenced discharging yesterday. The schooner Unity, from Lyttelton, arrived in port at midday yesterday, after a splendid run of 19 hours. She brings a fall cargo of produce. During the afternoon she hauled in to Pllmmer's wharf.where she will unload. She returns'to Lyttelton again. The schooner* Julius Vogel and Endeavor both commenced discharging their cargoes yesterday. : The Young Dick was busy all day yesterday landing * her hardwood. She leaves here for Lyttelton, at the : end of the week.: The schooners Elizabeth Curio a.nd Sarah, Pita both got under way yesterday morning, but owing -to the : strong southerly breeze and heavy swels they brought ’ up off Cow Bay. Tho schooner Star of the Sea lefe for Havelock Sate on Monday night, but only got tw far as-Worser Bay when she was met by the southerly breeze, and she anchored there for the night. The barque Pleiades was still detained all yesterday owing to the southerly wind. The steamer Taupo sails to-day for the North, Tho steamer Manawatu arrived front 'Wanganui W 4 evening at 7 o'clock. Bho crossed tho bar at midnight'on Monday, and experienced strong southerly winds, arriving here as above. The steamer Go-Ahead, also from Wanganui, arrived at tho wharf at 8 o'clock last evening. She left Wanganui a little after 10, and crossed tho bar at 11 o'clock with a very heavy sea. Strong: head winds and a cross sea were experienced on the run up. Tho'barque Carfotta, from Newcastle, arrived last evening and brought up off tho end of the wharf. The borquo left Newcastle on tho tth Instant, and experience I moderate went ami south-west winds till tho 12th; from thence strong northerly winds,accompanied with very vivid lightning ami thunder, till malting the land. Rock Point w.at sighted on the 15th at 4 p.m. At midnight the wind changed to W.B.W, At noon on M*o Kith' was abreast of (Jape Farewell. Passed Jo^ksrfn'a Head on tho 17th at 8 p.m., when the wind shifted to 8.E., with a heavy sea, Bho beat through the Strait, and arrived as above at 8 p.m,, after a pjimge of eleven days. INTERCOLONIAL .SHIPPING. Sydney telegrams, dated the 4th Instant, state : The brig Emily, from Newcastle to Adelaide, had her decks swept yesterday during the gale, and tho ■ »«oo»d officer was washed overboard and lost. Tho ilosphorus, from Newcastle to Adelaide ; the Floral Kfar, from Adelaide to Sydney ; and tho Vivid, from Newcastle to Adelaide, have also pat In hero,'more or less damaged by the gale. Tho latter’B bulwarks were stove in, und the cargo shifted. The A.S.N. Company have received a telegram reporting that tho steamship Junga; bound from Hongkong to Sydney, had been ashore, and 300 tons} of cargo jettisoned. The place of the accident was not mentioned. ■ A Sydney telegram, dated-tlio 4th Inst., says The' L rhtock, from Liverpool, which arrived yesterday, encountered heavy weather. On the 3rd of May the sea broke over the port quarter, carrying away deck- j gear, boats, See.- The second oflicor and one seaman I were killed, and another seaman was washed over- I board and drowned.
