To Ngakau has been going round the Waikato townships examining what allotments belong to Government, in view of Sir George Grey's proposals to give the town lots to the Kingites. Tho contractor for the Raglan and Waiparoad, which is about to be commenced to connect Raglan with the Waikato, has been warned by the Kingites in the name of Tawhiao to suspend operations. Blenheim, Thursday. ■ Tho Liberal Reform Association is calling a meeting regarding the railway extension. A deputation is also being formed to ask the Mayor to call a public meeting for the same purpose. There is great agitation amongst the public regarding the railway extension and the bridge into Blenheim, besides other organisations. Notice has been issued this afternoon calling a special meeting of tho Borough Council. The continued delay in the prosecution of the work is considered inexplicable. Timaru, Thursday. At the adjourned sitting of the Supreme Court to-day, Richard 801 l pleaded guilty to stealing 81 lambs and ewes, the property of J. Taylor. There wore two other charges against the prisoner. Tho Crown Prosecutor offered no evidence. The Judge deferred sentence.— Alexander Bell was charged with shooting, with intent to murder J. J. Kingsley. Tho jury returned a verdict of guilty of firing with some sort of firearm at the prosecutor, with intent to do him grievious bodily harm, though there was no evidenco to show that tho said firearm was loaded with bullets. His Honor finally decided to refer the case to tho decision of the Appeal Court.—During the afternoon the Grand Jury returned “No bill” against Isabella B. Dick, charged with larceny of goods. Dunedin, Thursday. Mr. Watt, R.M., has convened a meeting of Justices of the Peace for Monday, to make arrangements whereby they may attend the business of the Court. The Evening Age premises had a narrow escape from being destroyed by fire last night. Invercargill, Thursday. In tho Supreme Court to-day the Grand Jury made a presentment regarding the defective accommodation of the building used as a Court House, stating that they believed their deliberations after

the examination of witnesses had been overheard. The Judge concurred in the remarks, made, and said he considered the present arrangements only temporary. Sentences were passed as follows ;—William Taylor, forgery (two indictments), eighteen months on each, with hard labor, the two sentences to run concurrently; Andrew Seymour, larceny from a dwelling (second offence), two years, with bard labor ; David Richmond, larceny from a railway station, six months ; Sing Hay, found guilty of unlawfully wounding another Chinaman, having been five months in prison, was sentenced to three months’ hard labor ; Catherine Braoey, charged with larceny, conducted her own case, and was acquitted. Sh 6 made an able defence. This finished the calendar.
