The brigantine Emma Jane, which was damaged at the wharf early in May by tho brig Fawn being driven broadside on to her during a gale of wind, Las been thoroughly repaired by Henry Meeeh. Yesterday a marine survey wis hold on her by Captain Bendall and Mr. Scott, who declared her to bj thoroughly seaworthy. The Emma Jane cleared at the Customs ]»jt week for Guam, and will probably sail to-day, Tho barque Raymond left Newcastle for Wellington with a cargo of coals on the 31st ult. Tho steamers Ringarooma and Wellington are both due here early this morning. The steamer Hawea arrived in port at half-past nine yesterday morning. She left X'ort Chalmers at 4 p.m. or» Saturday, and arrived at Lyttelton the following morning a little before 11 o’clock; left again at 5 p.m., and arrived here as above. She sails to-day for the North. The a s. Stormbird arrived alongside the wharf yesterday morning at half-past 6 o'clock. She left Wanganui on Monday afternoon, and experienced fine weather up the coast. The steamer Murray, from Nelson, returned yesterday at midday. She reached Nelson from the Duller on Saturday, and left there again at midnight on Monday. She experienced lino weather throughout the trip. The schooner Young Dick loft Hobarton for "U ellingtou on the Ist Inst., and may therefore bo expected to arrive any hoar. She brings a full cargo, consisting of Jams, fruit, and coal. Tho scliooner Elizabeth Curie, with another cargo of West Wanganui coal, arrived In harbor yesterday afternoon. Captain Johnston reports having left on Saturday night with a llrht 8. W. breez?, which carried bim aa far as The Brothers, where the vessel lay becalmed all Monday night; left there yesterday morning with a light southerly wind, which carried her to the Heads. The access to the harbor Is very good. Captain Johnston took soundings at low water, and found 15ft. in the shallowest place. Saw a fullrigged ship beating up the Strait at daylight on Monday morning. The barque Pleiades, which put into Napier through stress of weather, arrived alongside the wharf yesterday morning. The barque loft Newcastle on the 30th April, and made a fine run to Cape Farewell of 9 days, when a heavy gala was encountered, which compolled the vessel to ru i before tho wind with a close reefed maintopsail. After running through the Strait she was hove-to, but only (or a short time, as the gale again increased, and she was put before tim wind and boro up for Napier. She remained there for fifteen days and discharged 150 tons of coal, Napier waa left on the 4th List., and from there light head winds were experienced until arrival. Tho steamer Luna will go on tho slip at Evans Bay for an overhaul before leaving for the West Coast, /t will probably be tho end of the week before aho leaves. Several of the coasters hoisted their bunting yesterday out of compliment to Captain Botham, who entered Into the Jioly bonds of matrimony. We are sorry to report that the twin-screw steamer Go-Ahead met with rather a serious breakdown on Monday night, wiil'-h compelled her to return to Wellington. Sholeft the wharf on Monday evening, bound lor Wanganui, and bad proceeded as faros Tcrawlti. when a sudden shock was fcl'. It was immediately ascertained that something was wrong with the machinery, and on examination it was found that the starboard shaft had broken short off to the engine. The steamer was consequently quite disabled, as far as steaming powers were concerned. Fortunately, however, the weather was fine, and a light breeze blowing at the time enabled the vessel to ba put under canvas, and this, together with the assistance of the port screw, allowed Captain Dicker to bring his vessel inside the Heads. »hw went round to the Patent Blip during yesterday forenoon, where the necessary repairs will be e'fectcd. The Government s.s. Stella went to The Brothers lighthouse yesterday to land stores. She had ftne weather In the Strait, and there was but little break at the island. On her return an attempt was made to put some coal ashore at the Inner landing at l*encarrow Ileajlftbnt there was too much roll on to permit HJto bo done without great risk, and the boat returned to the vessel. The Stella left tho wharf at 4.15 a.m., and reached The Brothers shortly after 9 o'clock, having hail a very strong tide to contend with.
