From* private advices wo learn that the brig Star, bound to "Wellington, put into Rio De Janeiro on the 12th of April In distress, and the cargo damaged. The vessel will have to be repaired, which will necessitate the discharging of her cargo. She will conse quently bo detained there about two months. The cutter Kapld, -which went ashore on the ‘Mohaka beach, was floated off last week without sustaining any serious damago v The steam collier liasby took her departure from the wharf for Sydney at midday yesterday. Several members of the theatrical company were passengers, and a large number of their friends accompanied them on board and wished them a pleasant passage. The steamer Wellington returned on her usual Nelson and Plcton trip last night. The steamer Taupe arrived from the North yesterday morning at 8 o'clock. She left Auckland at 4 p.m on Thursday, and arrived at Tauranga at 7 a„m, ,o»iFriday; left there again at 10 a.ra., and arrived at Gisborne the following morning at 7 a.ra.j left again at 5 p.m., and reached Napier at 8 a.m. on Sunday; left there at midday, arriving hers as above. The Government steamer Stella loft her© shortly after 3 o'clock this morning for The Brothers lighthouse. She goes there for the purpose of landing stores, &c,, and will return this evening. The Ringarooma, for Nelson, loft yesterday afternoon, She leaves hero for Melbourne to-morrow.

Thu schooner Ilnby, from Kaikonra, arrived hero last night with a cargo of potatoes. She left on Saturday at 4 p.m., and experienced S.K. winds with thick weather. Captain Backatrom reports seeing a large barque off Pal User Bay. The brig Kobin Hood will have finished discharging ker coals to-morrow, and will leave for Newcastle on TJmraday. The two schooners Sarah File and Poneko started discharging their timber yesterday. The steamers Lyttelton and Napier both left at midnight for Blenheim. The Manawatn left the wharf at 10 o’clock last night for Wanganui. The steamer Jane Douglas, from Voxton, arrived alongside the wharf last night at a Ufefefo before 12 o'clock.
