The formation of the Clydesdale Horse Society of Great Britain and Ireland was generally announced lastyear. : ■ Our late files inform' us 'that 1 its first ' annual'’meeting has been held, and as it may assist our project—that of [having a-' stud-book - for ' draught horse; stock. 1 compiled 1 here—we l extract the following; particulars of.the meeting,—“ Tho meeting, was s under the? presidency iiof Lord Dunmore.Anumber ; of well-known 1-influen-tial . agriculturists l were present.,,,iThe.,chair- . man l read. the report,: which stated..that the Council had much pleasure in annoucing that the society vyas iu a most flourishing, condition, being, supported by Vmbst of , the ‘principal landed proprietors and farmers!,' The present number of life'governors was 97, life members 57, and annual members'44, making a total of 198. The first volume of-the stud-book, the preparation of which Lcfrd • Dunmore had undertaken,, was at: present in the I .hands of the Editing, Committee, who had .commenced their,work of > reyisal.-- '-The .number of pedigrees in the first. book was .about;■ 1100, and the Election Committee expected to; have the volume published .duping- the summer. The ' Council had in the meantime, resolved not to open .the sdcond book for mares and'.their pedigre'es tintil'the first volume 11 had been issued. "iThe Couucil’had'revised and -finally'approved the’regis ter'or stud-book 1 for breeders’ own usos,’-andi the Council would urge upon breeders the" necessity', of i supplying s. themselves with •copies.,..
