A New Zeai.anu Gazette published yesterday contains the following account of-laud in oultivatiou.aud of agricultural produce (being the result of collections -made in February last), in the; counties -.of. Taranaki, I’atea,*Wanganui, Raugitikei,, Manawatu, : Hutt,'.andi.Wajrarapa East and West. The total number of freehold holdings over: an acre iin extent are 2010, and, rented 761. The number of holdings partly; freehold and partly routed is set;dbwn at 359, making a. total of 3160. The extent of land broken up, but not under crop* is 39,518 acres,; ofwhich 7961 acres’are in wheat, the gross estimated produce of which is 214,749 bushels), and 761 acres in-oats ; for -food or green hay and‘for grain,- 7222 acres, the- estimated produce of which is set down at 205,117 bushels barley, 159 acres are sown for;grain only, the estimated gross--produce -in- bushels being 12,157 ; in potatoes, 1843 across the estimated gross produce in tons being 9308 ; in other crops, 611 acres p the total, number of acres under crop, exclusive 'of laud 'under grasses, being 18,837 acres ; and-in sown grasses 7788 in hay, of which the gross produce is estimated at 11,240'tons'; - in - grasses, - after having been broken ; up : (including such; as kin . hay), 98,011 acres ; and grass sown lands not previously ploughed (including such as in: hay), 555,336 acres.
