LAND SALE. ' / Mr. R. J. Duncan hold a largo sale of town and country properties at his rooms yesterday. The at-' tendance was large, and .the prices realised must be considered satisfactory to the sellers. The following Is a list of the properties sold:— *
202 acres at:Fcathcrston i \verc withdrawn at 25s an ■ acre ; 284 acres at B’catlicraton ulso not bid for ;'8548 acres, Akiteo, there was no bid for; and several other properties were withdrawn, .bids nob reaching prices wanted by buyers.,,- . i ' LONDON WOOL SALLU 52, Lorubard-atreet, London, stli April, 187 b, E.G. Sir,—The lust series of colonial wool sales for; the current year*, which up-ned on 20th Februaiy, closed this evening. , Catalogues have comprised ; ■ Bales.'.
withdrawals amounting to about I6,6Uo : bales, j, The market closes fairly steady, and competition the last week rather brisker than in the preceding, still, jrreasy fleece from New South Wales and South Australia, if. at all deficient (as is : particularly tlie case with the latter) in staple ,must be quoted 4d to Id cheaper than when bhc. series opened while sound combing has maintained its price throughout, and the demand-for good cross-bred has also? been well sustained, - - - - Larnbswool 1 has been well competed for. Merino 1 , at high prices and cross-bred,: which some months, ago was almost unsaleable, has sold fairly. Fare Lincoln and Leicester lleeces, and the coarser descriptions of cross-bred,'show no recovery from tho decline. > ; In a period of great political disquietude concurring with a general depression of trade both here and in America,' it is-satisfactory to find so good a demand; ami price os has ruled for the finer descriptions of; Ausiralian wool. Their comparative scarcity may be to huaintam These at succeeding series if pe.u'e should be preserved, ami in regard to the bulk of the clip it is to be l noted that the currency is on the average quite equal to that ruling at the corresponding period of last year,.while there can be but* little doubt that the Import will bo considerably less, a decrease which will be insufficiently estimated unless the greatcr'proportion of greasy fleeces and consequently of waste be considered.; ■ v Tito next series will probably commence on 4th May.—We haye, &c. ; , :r ’ f /. > , Daloei'Y, - Duckoz, ani> Co.
