A report by the Town Clerk and City Sm’- : . veyor oa the above' subject will be presented to the City Council to-day. The report recommends that closets within the borough should no longer bo allowed to drain into the sewers, which should in future not be allowed to become the depository of a large proportion of the nightsoil of the city. The cost of carrying put the foregoing is estimated as follows :—£lXO2 XGs. for materials, &c., and for working expenses £3909 Is.; interest anddepreciation of working plant, 17 per cent., £lB7 6s. Bd.; malting a total cost of £1096 7s. Bd. To provide the requisite funds it will be necessary to make a special rate bn the assessed value, of the city. (£207,605) sufficient to meet the expense. It is recommended that all existing cess-pits be at once emptied and filled up.
