A report by the Town Clerk and City Sm’- : . veyor oa the above' subject will be presented to the City Council to-day. As a first step to carry out this scheme, it is recommended that the Council, under the powers given them by clause 7 of the Municipal Corporation Amendment Act, 1877, obtain possession of that piece of land in the isthmus between Evans and Lyell Ray pointed out by Mr. Clark in his report as the most suitable place for the reception and utilisation of the nightsoil of the city. The cost of carrying put the foregoing is estimated as follows :—£lXO2 XGs. for materials, &c., and for working expenses £3909 Is.; interest anddepreciation of working plant, 17 per cent., £lB7 6s. Bd.; malting a total cost of £1096 7s. Bd. To provide the requisite funds it will be necessary to make a special rate bn the assessed value, of the city. (£207,605) sufficient to meet the expense. It is recommended that all existing cess-pits be at once emptied and filled up.
