The signatory Powers are unprepared as yet with the details of the pending negotiations, but the prospects of peace expected to result from the European Congress have materially improved. May 28. The London papers are sanguine that the Peace Congress will meet on the 11th June. The report is substantially confirmed that Prince Bismarck will preside, and that Lord Salisbury, Count Schouvaloff, and Count Andrassy will attend. The naval preparations at Chatham have been relaxed. There is sharp continuous fighting in South Africa. The British troops have been generally successful. . . May 27. The Marylehoue Cricket Club and the Australians played at Lords Ground for three days. The match is finished, and the Australians won by nine wickets. In their first innings the Australians made 41, and in the second 13, with nine wickets. In the first innings Marylebone made 33, and in the second 19. The fielding of the Australians was excellent ; the bowling, especially of Spotforth, was dead on the wickets. SPECIAL TELEGRAM.
