“A3gles” in the Australasian writes : “ The future historian of Victoria must not forget the beautiful traits displayed last week by a handful of blacks —representatives of the few remaining aborigines—who came to Melbourne to complain to the head of the Government of the lax superintendence exercised at the Coranderrk Station, especially on Sundays, and to express their horror at anything like racing, fighting, or gambling being, permitted amongstthem. Probably it will be the last opportunity they will have of showing the noble characteristics of their race, and lifting their voices against some of the vices Of civilisation, for they are evidently too good for this world. ■We cannot expect their example to be imitated by the descendants of any European progenitors, but wo may hope , yet to see a deputation from the Chinese residents of Little Burke-street ask the Government to take rigorous measures for the suppression of fon-tan and all other forms of gambling amongst the Chinese.” ■
