DUNEDIN RACES.
(PEE PBBSS AGENCY.) : Dunedin, Friday. j Tile Birthday races took place to-day. The attendance was not large, and the course was heavy in consequence of the fall of rain. The following were the results : . BUBBLE KACE, Of 40 sovs. Two miles and a distance. Baron (late Lord Warwick), Bst lOlbs .. .. 1 Kildare, list 2Jbs.. . .. ... .. .. .. 2 Black Bess, 9st Slbs .. .. .... .. 8 Camelllia, lost 71bs .. . . ■ 0 Kildare took the lead, with Baron next, Camellia third, and Black Bess last. The position of the leaders remained the same for the first half mile. At the first mile Baron challenged Kildare, and raced him on level terms for a short distance, but soon fell back.' Kildare lead past the stand by a length, Baron next, and Camellia third. At the back of the course Camellia ! tried to improve her position, but could not catch Kildare, who in the meantime had given way to the Baron. After a good race down the straight, the event ended as above. Time, 4min. sseo. j MAIDEN PLATE,; Of 35sovs. Distance, one mile and a-quartcr, Weight for age. - Mr Pollock’s Captains Douglas, sst lllbs .. .. 1 Mr McDonald’s Blue Bell, 9st 21bs .... .. 2 Mr Goodman’s Mountain Maid, 9st Mbs ‘ ; 3 ■Larrikin, Endymion, Honest-Jack, Contriver, and Oamppalle also ran. Captain Douglas led throughout, and won easily by about two' lengths. : Time, 2mih. SOJaeo. BIRTHDAY HANDICAP. Of isOsovs. Distance, one mile and three-quarters. Mr Swanson’s Blue Peter, 7st 4lbs ~ 1 Mr Kay’s Bide-a-wee, Sst Slbs 2 Mr Kltching’s Oberon. 7st .. ' .. .3 Mr Andrew's Exile, 7st 21bs |.. .. - .. . . 0 ' Contriver and Camellia gwere scratched. Blue Peter was the first to show in front, but was quickly displaced by. Oberon, who had lost the start, and these two soon parted company from the others, and raced well together for the first mile. Bide-a-wee then went up, passed Oberon, and for the last half mile struggled hard to catch Blue Peter, but failed, and the latter won by a length. Oberon and Exile were several lengths behind. Time, 3min. 31sec. SELLING KACE, Of 31 sovs. Distance, one mile and a distance. Mr. Hastio’s Lady Ellen X Mr. Goodman’s Mountain Maid .. .. .. 2 Mr. T. Goodman’s Merry Monarch .. .. .. 3 Blue Peter and Telemaohus were scratched. Lady Ellen led from the start, and won by two lengths. Time, 2 min. 18 see.
