THE S.S...GRAFTON. Since Captain Williams* steamer Grafton has been laid up, tenders have been .issued for supplying her with new compound engines and boilers, and Messrs. Robertson and Co., of the Phcenix Foundry, have been the successful tenderers. The steamer is to retain her twin screws, which are to be driven by two compound engines of 104 h.p. nominal combined, the high pressure cylinders being ISin., and the low pressure ones 34in. in diameter, with a 20in. stroke. The boilers are to be composed of the best iron, and are to measure 10ft, in diameter and Oft. in length. As soon as the alterations to the Grafton are carried out she will be one of the most serviceable steamers on our coast, and should prove highly remunerative to her spirited owner. The contract date for the completion of the work is stated to be six months hence.
