Tuesday, .May 21. (Before J. C. Crawford, Esq., R.M.) 1 WIFE DESERTION. Clement J. White, on remand, was again charged with deserting his. wife,. The .case was previously remanded :in order that'the police might receive some information from Christchurch. Inspector Atohesou informed the Bench that telegraphic communication was, received, stating that the accused had left his wife unprovided for, and also that another case was to ,be instituted against him; for;' neglecting to register one of his children.! J The prisoner was refused bail, and remanded to Christchurch, - CIVIL CASES. : , - JEI. C. G. Nees v. E. W. Watson—Claim, £75 2a, 9d. Mr. Allan appeared for the plaintiff, and Mr. Ollivier for the who at . the outset asked for a ' nonsuit bn the grounds that the bills of particulars ware not sufficiently explicit. Mr. Allan thought that a;short adjournment of two or three !r hours would rectify the difficulty. Mr. Ollivier 5 objected to this course, stating that it would be very inconvenient, and suggested ■ that the case should be adjourned until Thursday next. This bis Worship agreed to do by the plaintiff paying solicitor’s fee. ■ David Simson v. James McColl—Claim, £l6 19s. 6d., for board and lodging. Mr. Travers appeared for the plaintiff, and Mr. W. W. Wilson for the defendant. From the evidence it appeared that the plaintiff kept hotel at the Thames, and that the amount® sued for was for board and lodging, and money lent during the year 1899. Mr. Wilson asked for an adjournment until Thursday,-which was granted on the same grounds as the abov®case. : ■ ■' ■ ■■■■•■■ J. Clelaud v. Mrs. Paulinier—Claim, j£s ; r ßs. 3d., a judgment summons for rent. Defendant, who is a widow, stated that she was unable at present to pay the debt. She earned her money principally by cooking, but her employment was not steady; His Worship refused to make an order, and adjourned the case sine die. ‘
