FOOTBALL.
A very good game of football was played on ■.( the Basin Deserve on: Saturday afternoon i bei tween the chosen Fifteen and Twenty-two allcomers, The Fifteen however did not all turn up, and- consequently they-did battle ,-with eleven men. i The ground was not in tho best of order, but it was not' so soft or sloppy as many would imagine, as the strong breeze from the southward dried up tho surface of the sward. The following are the names • of the eleven Messrs. Welsh (captain), H. Pollen, Davy,’Kerr, Bishop, Derry, Cowie, Lockett, Blacklock; A, Campbell; and .Cbutton. The game.was ‘started by Welsh, of tho X r ift;en,, kicking oil the ball. Berry scon
singled himself out -and made- a good run, and passed the ball very nnutly on 4o Welsh* who secured a forep-down by a god 1 kick. The ball was brought out again by C.i*telli. Kerr made a splendid run, and t after a considerable amount of doflging scored, another'force-down for the fifteen, l.> >yle next distinguished himself for the Fifteen by a smart" run.' - After that ■'■the ball was kept pretty-well idn the centre of - tho field, and it was doubtful' to know,' looking on, which was tho hotter team. At length tho bladder was "ot clear by tho Twenty-two, who rushed it np it#i the' goal' of the Fifteen. Fortunately the goal-keepers • were on tho alert, and a force-dowu'iouly -was scored. At this part L of the-game. Boyle and-Kane played very well for the all-oomors, and succeeded: in scoring another touch-down.-' Sides were then changed with'a kick-off in tho centre of the field. Davy got tlie ball and made a very fair: run, when ho . expeditiously : passed it to Berry, „who i, backedy him-vap ■/ exceptionally well.
