WASTE LANDS BOARD.

The ordinary meeting of the Board was held yesterday. Present—The.Chief Commissioner (in the chair) and Commissioners Bunny, Pearce, and Mason. The Chairman reported that there had not been any land sales since the last meeting. The following letter was read from the Under-Secretary for Lauds : I am directed by the Hon. the Minister for Lands to acknowledge the receipt your letter of the 18th instant, enclosing a copy of a resolution of the Board relative to felling bush in road lines, cutting drains, &c., in surveyed blocks of land previous to their being offered for sale,-—And in reply have to state that the Government regrets that it cannot comply with the request of the Board, inasmuch as there is not any provision under which funds can be applied for such an undertaking. It is intended, however, to support a vote by the Legislature, during the next session, for sufficient funds to render lands accessible to persons wishing to inspect them before they are put up for sale. Received,

It was resolved, —That under the provisions of section 164 of the Land Act, 1877, C. A. Wray, Esq., be appointed appraiser to determine the value of section 468, Okutuku district, applied for by Mr. Milne. Mr. Rutherford waited on the Board in support of an application to have a road made through a portion of the Peildiug Block, Manawatu District.—Action in the matter was postponed. The Board then adjourned.
