COLLISION BETWEEN THE STEAMER WELLINGTON AND SCHOONER AURORA. , “When tho Union Company’s steamship Wellington was proceeding down Queen Charlotte Sound yesterday morning a collision between her and the schooner Aurora toolc place, which resulted in very little damage to either vessel It appears that - the Wellington left Ficton between 4 and 5 a.m. yesterday, and when she hail proceeded down Qaee-a Charlotte Sound about five miles the lights of a sailing vessel were discerned between the steamer and the shore. The second officer was in charge of the Wellington at tho time, and tho night being dark, he did not deem it prudent to run under the stern of the* " sailing vessel, as it wonld bring his vessel too- near f; the land. C'onsequentlyhe kept her on ber eoure at full speedhut unfortunately the sailing vessel, i ,which, subsequently proved to be the Aurora, was travelling foster than was anticipated, and she struck the Wellington on the: quarter, the result being that a portion of the steamer's rail was carried away, and the Aurora lost her jibboom and head gear, and tho bowsprit was sprung; 'A*'soon as the Wellington arrived hero yesterday Captain McGee reported the matter to the Customs authorities. The ] Aurora is bound to Ficton, ami it is probable that on her arrival there an inquiry will be hold into the circumstances of the collision.
