CENSUS ENUMERATORS.
TO THE EDI TOE OB' THE NEW ZEALAND TIMES. Sib, —I noticed a -elegram in the N.Z. Mail to the effect that those persons employed in collecting the census information in Otago • had not yet been paid for doing bo, and I am sorry to say the Otago sub.enumerators are not singular in that respect. It is now over two months ago since the census returns were col- _ lected in this district, and as yet not one halfpenny has been received by the men who collected them. How, sir, I think this conduct is very unfair on the'part of the Government, as to'my certain knowledge some of the per- ■ sons thus employed could not afford to wait two weeks, let alone two months, for their money. The Government already expferiehce a difficulty in getting capable men to undertake the duties of sub-enumerators at the remuneration offered, which difficulty will be still further increased when it is known that they might have to wait an indefinite time for their money after it is earned. Trusting you will find space for this letter, I remain, &c., Waibaxuta, W*lwrip»»M*yll.
