THE BASIN RESERVE.

TO THE EDITOR OS’ THE NEW ZEALAND TIMES. SIR, —The football players and cricketers appear to be at loggerheads about the Basin Eeserve. The same difficulty occurred in Dunedin with regard to the Oval, but after several meetings of both clubs it was settled in this way:—The football players agreed to leave off their practise about three weeks before the completion of the season. This allowed at least two mouths for the ground to lie idle. The football players also_ agreed to put whatever turf was destroyed in as good order as when they started play. If I remember rightly an amateur concert was given by members of the club to augment the funds for this purpose. X merely mention these facts, thinking, perhaps, the same arrangement might be followed out in Wellington,—l am, &c., Observer. TO THE EDITOR OF THE NEW ZEALAND TIMES.^ Sir, —Your exultant correspondent “ Eair Play” well knows, as a footballer, that cricket does not hurt his game, though his game does hurt cricket; consequently he feels quite serene and comfortable in the matter, and seems quite surprised if everybody else does not feel exactly as he does. I fail to see (my “ ignorance” again !) that the onesidedness he imputes to me is, altogether, where he would put it. If football is now played on the Melbourne cricket ground, it is au arrangement ef recent date. When I was there, a few years since; they used to play just outside the enclosure specially set apart for cricket, and I am told thev still do so.—l am, &0., " ■ An Old Wellington Cricketer. <
