William Roach, for the'same offence, gwas’ fined 55., "or 2-1 hours. Andrew Evans and James Allen were both fined 10s., or 48 , hours. Thomas Borzutskey. and John McLutney were both discharged. ' . ~‘r " * RESISTING THE POLICE; ; Malcolm McLennan and J : JC Willett were ; both charged with resisting and." assaulting the police outside the .Bank Hotel on. Saturday night.,'... - ' ■ V r Both the prisoners pleaded that they knew notliing aboat it.' The police, however, proved to the satisfaction of the Bench that the offence was committed. • Inspector Atoheson remarked to his Worship that McLennan was formerly a member of the constabulary: force "hr Otago, and ought to . have known better. , His Worship fined him 505., or in default seven days’ imprisonment. • The other prisoner, Willett, j was fined 10s., or 48 hours’ imprisonment. ... LARCENY. Henry Schmidt was charged with stealing, on or about 26th April, from J. E. Nathan, the following goods, of ■ the value of £2O, viz.: Two chairs, one pistol, one pocket-book, one tin coffee, two boxes' raisins, two boxes tea, one stone jug, several ornaments, spices, 'matches, 1 'five hoses cigars, two candle boxes, and'sundry other articles.’ _ _ J. D.' INathan, assistant to J. L. Lathau, deposed that .ho knew the prisoner. He was assistant storeman and packman m ms (witness’s) father’s employment,l he wages prisoner received was £2 2s. a week, -but he only worked five:days, a week, as .there was no work on Saturdays. Since the 23nd nnstaut several articles' had gone astray from the store. The pistols, wore ,missed, about five months a"0. Stephen Alpas, a lunatic, was sent to the Lunatic Asylum. : , CIVIL CASES. , P. McLanghlan v. G. Styles.—Claim £3, balance of account for a cow. Mr Eitzhorbert appeared for the plaintiff, and Mr Buckley for defendant. The case had previously beep before the Court, when the plaintiff elected to take a nonsuit for the production of fresh evidence. His Worship now gave judgment for the defendant. ~, ,G. Crawford v. H. T. Phillips—Glum £l2 3s. 9d. on a dishonored promissory note. Judgment for plaintiff for amount claimed and costs. .
