ARRIVAL OF THE CANMORE. On Saturday monrng the Canmore from London was sighted outside the Heads, and there being a. head wind blowing, she had to beat into port, aided by the flood tide, and anchored in the powder ground at 4 p.m. The Canmore is a handsome barque of 728 tons register, and besides being able to carry a very large cargo, having now on board some 1670 tons, or oyer 200 tons more than double her register, possesses as far as can bo judged by her appearance above water, excellent lines. She is quite-a new'vessel, only - eighteen months old, and this is her second voyage,, her maiden one having been made out to: Singapore and Mauritius. She is only chartered by the New Zealand Shipping Company, being owned by Millar, of Dundee. The Canmore has made the passage out from London to anchorage in ,108 day;, and from land to land in 92 days. The trip has : therefore been a little over the average time, but, considering/the season of the year her performance must not at he taken as a bad one, as the weather encountered a t the commencement of the voyage caused a dcla*y 0 f ten days in the Channel, and afterwards, priorto finding the north-east trades, a series of head winds were met with, which retarded her progress south for several days. From the Equator to the Cape the. barque has made a fair run ; but from th.e Cape to the meridian of Tasmania she has perfotTned the pas-' sage in excellent time, averaging 30Q ; miles per day. The Canmore comes into, port in a oleanand tidy order, considering that, owing to h-er being very deeply laden, she shipped large ‘quantities of°wafcer, and labored heavily in the gales experienced. ■ The barque left London on the ICth January, Gravesend next day, and the Downs on the 18th : experienced heavy S.W. and westerly .winds down Channel, and did not take her departure from the land till the 27th. Had nr derate weather across the Day. of Biscay, but' afterwards fell in with heavy head gales. The first of the'N.B. trades was picked up on February 25th. in latitude 26.54 N. } long, <20.67 IV., which at first proved light, but gradually' increased in strength, and were dost, on the 27th in lat 2.sodeg N„ 23 50deg TV. Crossed the Line on the 20tb March, and picked up the S.E. trades there, which as she, got into them freshened, and carried her to 3ldeg. S., where they were lost on the 14th; thence experienced' moderate westerly winds, and crossed the prime meridian in 4ldeg., on the 23rd, and rounded the Capo on the'27th. Ran down her easting on a.kieau parallel of between 45deg. and 4Gdeg.- before strong westerly trades, which lasted till thc llth April; when a N.E, gale was encountered, and for , tw;o. days sho : had to headreach under reduced, canvas.' Thence-, had moderate fair winds, and passed Gape Leuwin oh the 1 18th, and Tasmania on the: 23rd. Was off Cape Foulwind on the 30th, where she- encountered a strong' N.E. wind, and sighted Capo Farewell 0 n the Ist May Had 1/ght variable wind* through the straits till Friday, when she got a breeze fcoir t he N.W., which took ?^r^ 10 ea j ß ‘ ° V jiodc same.night. .Took Pilot Holmes on board n' xt morn i n g, and arrived here same afternoon. Canmore will be entered at.the ■- m^row- 8 to ’^ and avill commence to; discharge tf£'
