In th-i shipping interests, and one that we invariably desie to protect, we must-enter the protest made by the various vessels that visit this port, that there ii not sufficient accommodation afforded at tne new extensions of tlie- wharf,: now completed, for the safe mooring of vessels. True, 41,0 work of extension has been completed, so to apeak, but unfortunately there has not been supplied either mooring posts or tings whereby vessels can safely be made fast. It certainly seems strange, with all our boasted harbor expenditure both In tne riast ami the present, that such a piece of negligence should have been commuted ; hut snch nevertheless is the case, and to that fact may be attributed the nrimary cause of the accident which occurred between the Fawn and Emma Jane on Tuesday morning. The former vessel had made her lines fast to tho sharp cornered ironbark piles, and the rcanlt.was that by the m ivements of the vessel caused by the heavy sea running tho ropes which held her fast were chafed through, and hence the accident. It Isalnc»rely to bo hoped that some arrangements will he made by tho Corporation whereby proper mooring accommodation will bo applied to the various berths at the wharf, and thus prevent snch a serious casuallty as that which bcfcl the Emma JaneandFawn, which can only prove detrimental to the Interests of tho poi t. - '
