Single, White; and Co., sho did not enter, but turned round and proceeded to San Francisco. It was rumored that the cause of her thus golrig away was the expectation of a war between England and HnsSlay whioh would cause grain to rise in price; in England; and the’ship would thus come In for a portion ,of the golden harvest .likely to bo reaped by shipowners through the . conveyance of grain frbrit San Francisco to England. The Chimborazo.' s.s. —lt will bo gratifying to the public to learn that this fine steamer has arrived safely at the anchorage in Neutral Bay. after a fine-weather passage from; Jervis Bay of twelve hours, having kept up a uniform speed of seven knots. Tho particulars respecting the untoward accident, and her being got off and brought to an anchor, hare already been published, and differ In no important parUcn-. lars, os appears in the ship’s log. Captain Hall, under whoso superintendence the temporary repairs have been carried out. speaks very highly of the able manner in which he has been assisted by ail hands. In' bntWard ; appearance, as she lies at anchor, it would never be Imagined that she had sustained so much damage. . The, temporary bulkhead has stood wpll.'arid the centrifugal pump, driven by a portable engine. Is able to keep the water down in the forehold; and-the steamer having been trimmed 18 inches by the stern, the pressure on the bulkhead was considerably decreased. It is intended to .have her placed on tho Fitzroy Dock as early as possible for survey, when tho extent of the injury will be easily’ ascertained. The staff of engineers and workmen who were forwarded from the A.S.N. Co.’s works have returned by the Chimborazo, she being accompanied, by Lloyd’s steamer James Comrie, which has been acting as a tender since the accident. ■ - 1
