Tho following are tho duties collected at tho Customs yesterday;—
Tho amount of Customs duties collected at this port for the week ending April 25, 1878, was as under:—
Tho Easter holidays have interfered with tho business of the past week, and leave us little to report, no transactions of any importance having come under notice. A fair town and country trade is doing, and although stocks are heavy and prices far from being over remunerative, importers have no reason to complain of dull demand. Orders from the country come in freely, and a large export coastwise is still going on. Adelaide llonr is quoted at £l7 10s per ton, and remains firm at that figure for the present. Brandies have been in bettor inquiry, Hennessy’a case being now worth 335. We know of no other variations.
; Colonial Produce.— Keg batter, which at this season should show signs of improved demand, Is still neglected: and stocks being large the highest price that is obtainable for shipping parcels is 7£(l to 8d per lb for prime cured. Cheese Uln fair demand, and good samples of Southern cheese are worth 7id to Sd per lb. Hams and bacon.—Parcels of hams and bacon move off at 8d toOdper lb for best Canterbury cure ; demand moderate. ' Grain,—Oats show little change in value, ancl ipntinue at our old quotations of 4s to 4s 3d per bushel with fair enquiry. Stocks are moderate. Chickwheat in fair demand at 3s9dto 3s lOd. Maize scarce, and worth 6s 6d to 6s Od. Barley Ss Id. Flour.—First-class brands of Canterbury and Oamaru flour, guaranteed quality, are selling at £l2 10s per ton for sacks In bakers’ lots ; but the market, judging from recent auction sales, lias a downward tendency. Potatoes.—Full supplies at 60s to 70s per ton.
