SPECIAL MEETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL.

A special meeting of the City Council was hold yesterday afternoon in the Council Chamber. Present; His Worship the Mayor, and Councillors Logan, Dixon, Maginity, if. A. Allan, G. Hunter, and G. Allen. The Mayou explained that the meeting had been called for the purpose of amending the burgess and citizens roll. His Worship remarked that the roll had been carefully prepared, and ho hoped that it had been done satisfactorily. It had been laid on the table for the Councillors to examine. Mr Ldxkobd appeared and stated that his name had been placed on the defaulters’ roll, for property in Adelaide-road. He explained to the Council that ho never had anything to do witli the property, and that it belonged to an absentee. The Clekk remarked that the property had been rated since 1865. The Mayou thought that Mr Luxford’s explanation was satisfactory, and it was agreed that hia name should be struck off. The following are the numbers of the defaulters in each ward; —Cook Ward, -12; Lampton Ward, 1 ; Te Aro Ward, 6, and Thoradon Ward, 8. Total, 57.
