CROWN LANDS SALE.

J. G. Holdsworth, Esq., Commissioner of Crown Lands, held a sale of Government lauds in the Council Hall yesterday. There were m all 606 sections, comprising lands,in the Hutt, Ohariu, Pahautanui, Manawatu, Wanganui, Peatherston, and Mauriceville also in the townships of Carnarvon, Lower Perry, and Rangitikei, which have been subdivided into town and suburban sections. There was a large number of speculators and others intcreated in fcbe disposal and purchase of laua present. The sale on the whole may be characterised as very satisfactory, the prices in some instances being very high. The principal demand for sections appeared to be in the Manawatu District. In this block there a ere 173 sections catalogued for sale, which were all sold with the exception of 12. In the township of Carnarvon the sections averaged from £9 to £l2. The suburban and rural sections, however, fetched a far higher figure. Messrs. Levin and Co. were the principal purchasers. In the townships of Palmerston and Bunnyhorpe nearly all the sections were passed in. Quite a contrary state of affairs took place with regard to the Sandon and Pitzherbert sections, and the bidding became very mated, high prices consequently being realised. One was knocked down to Mr. Lancaster for £675, and another to the same purchaser for £6OO. The total amount of land sold realised £12,875. The sale was commenced punctually at the advertised time, 11 o clock, and was terminated at half-past 3. OHABIg DISTRICT.

The following lots were passed in:—East Coast District—Akiteo Block, 19 sections, catalogued from 189 to 209; Awhea Block, sections 189 to 196; Wlmreama Block, sections' 677 to 085 ; Waitotara, sections 68 to 75 ; Palmerston, town sections 732 to 802. 731 was sold to Mr. Donald for £2O. Suburban scctions--38 lots wore passed In. No. 996 was purchased by Mr. McCready for £25: 997, hy Mr. Barnett, for £32 10s, 90S, 1000, and 1001. by Mr. Cook, for £2O each; 1017 by Mr. Bezar, for £25; 1038, by Mr. Lancaster, for £22. Allotments 5 and G, of section 167, by Mr. Collins, for £2seach. In the township of Bunnythorpc, consisting of 173 sections, only one was imrohascd, the buyer being Mr, J. Donald —section 1-92, upset price, £7 10s. '
