THE ATHLETIC CLUB SPORTS.

TO THE EDITOR OP THE NEW ZEALAND TIMES. Sir,—lt is a difficult matter to give correct “tips” for the Easter Monday races, because many of the competitors have not yet appeared here in public; Several have not shown themselves when training, and I' am obliged to judge of them by the reputations they have brought from other places. , However, with yodr permission, I will make an attempt to name the winners, 100 Yards, (Open).—This should be a very even race, as the men at scratch ate perhaps the fleetest hundred yards’ runners in Wellington. I rather fancy Webb as the winner, if he should be in anything like form, and should not knock himself up iu previous races. Champion 220 Yards . . Webb, Ist; Davy, 2nd 100 .. Webb, Ist: Davy, 2nd 300 .; Major, Ist; Davy, 2nd. 600 „ .. Major, Ist; Cooper, 2nd l’am inclined to think that Major will secure the greatest number of points in the championship events, and will win the silver medal. ■ Hurdle Race.— Cnmnbell should, if in form, be first, with Davy second, and Thomson, who has six yards start, and jumps well, close up. Steeplechase, $-mile.— If Berry is worthy of his reputation he should win this, with Wright second. _ Collegians’, l-mile.—A. Cooper Ist, R.Leekie 2nd. Two-mile Walk —Berry Ist, Moran 2nd. Tradesmen’s Club J-mile.— This is likely to be an even race, as all the competitors are good men, but I rather fancy Woods as the probable winner. Mile Race (open!.— This also will be a good race j and Berry, if he comes up to expectations, should win it, with Moran 2nd. It is .certainly risky to give “tips” when competitors are entered for several events, but I offer-my opinions for what they are worth, and hope I may be right in the majority.—l am, &c., Watch.
