PALMERSTON NORTH.
(FROM OVa OWN CORRESPONDENT.) Palmerston North. April 15. The Protestant Church here is beiug tastefully decorated for Paster Sunday; and as a great number of presents have been lately; made to it by members of the congregation,: such as a new altar-cloth, chandelier, carpet for chancel, cocoanut matting for aisle, &c,, it will probably be as pretty a little church (so far as the interior is concerned) as any in the province. It is hoped that we shall very shortly have a resident clergyman appointed, and steps are being taken to build a parsonage at once. , The Bank of ■ Australasia is at length about to build suitable premises on laud which has belonged to them for some time. It is to be hoped that the Bank of New Zealand will follow the good example, as their present office is certainly in my opinion a disgrace to any bank.' I may remark that at a very much smaller neighboring town, where they cannot by any possibility be doing such a good business, this bank has erected a very mce budding at a considerable expense. The new flour mills in tins town, belonging to Messrs. Richter, Nannestad, and Co., are very nearly finished, and will probably be ready to commence work next week. The Fire Brigade has not yet received the fire-engine and fittings promised by the insurance companies; but it is to be hoped that they will shortly be sent up. Surely the insurauce companies do not intend waiting until we have another large fire before carrying out their promise. ■
