POUT CHALMERS. Monday. A fire was discovered this morning in the fore room ■of the Taupo. It was extinguished in about fifteen minutes. The damage is estimated at £lo.' She sailed this afternoon. The time-ball may bo used to-day for ratin' clironometeta. A chronometer-true on Greenwich time would show 32h. 38min. when the ball drops. Any difference will be error, plus or minus, of the chronometer.

The brig Wild Wave arrived here from Kaipara yesterday afternoon at 2 o’clock, with a full c.rgo of timber consigned to K. Fearce. She met a most extraordinary long detention in Kaipara of throe months, loading. The brig left Kaipara'on Friday last: experienced a strong K, W. wind down to the Heads, but on arrival there on Sunday it increased to a gale, which drove her South. The gale lasted till 12 o’clock last night, when it suddenly shifted to the southward, and brought her up to this port yesterday, arriving as above stated. The s.s. Janes Douglas left Foxton at 7.30 a.m. yesterday. and arrived here at 5.30 p.m.; experienced fine weather throughout. The Jane Douglas will sail agalti for Foxton to-day at 3 p.m. The s.s. Wellington came off the Patent Slip yesterday morning, and left for Ficton and Kelson at midnight. The s.s- T I arrived here early yesterday morning from Waipapa, ami Bailed again for Kaxkoura and Lyttelton in the evening at 7 o’clock. The brigantine Enterprise left Timaru at 2 a.m. on Thursday, and arrived here at 8 a.m. yesterday with a fall cargo of produce. She was berthed at Plimmcr’s wharf during the day to discharge. The Aspasia and Ifero. forPelorus Sound, and Endeavour, for Oamaru, sailed yesterday morning. The b s. Kangatira will anil for Napier and .Poverty Bay to-day. ' Thos.s. Wnkatipu was towed round to Evans yesterday by the Wellington, for the purpose of adjusting her compasses, and was taken back to the -wharf in theafternoon.

The topsail schooner Young Pick, Captain Armit, arrived in harbor yesterday morning from the Thames with a full cargo of timber, consigned to Messrs. Beck and Tonka. , . The b.s. St. KHda left Wanganui on Saturday at 0 but owing to the heavy westerly tale blowing and to the bar being dangerous she anchored at the heads. Crossed tne- bar at 8 yesterday morning, wind north-west, arriving here at 9.30 p.ra. She brings £45 sheep. ' The s.s. Kennedy arrived in harbor from West (/oast ports and Nelson at 7 o'clock- yesterday rnornning. She left the latter port at 4 p.m. on Sunday, and exjierPnced strong winds to the Preach Pass, thence south-can till arrival. She returns to the same ports this afternoon. The 9.3. Wauftka left Auckland at 4.30 p.rn. on Thursday last, and arrived at Tauranga ; early next morning; left again at noon, and arrived at Poverty Bay at 9.30 a.m. on Saturday;;left again at.s p.m., and arrived at Napier at 7 a.m. oh Sunday; left again at 9 a.m., and arrived here at 10.30 a.m. yesterday. -

The p.s. Luna sailed for Westport and Greymouth last evening. The s.s. Alhambra, from Melbourne via the South, will be here to-morrow, andivill sail again for Nelson the same day. __
