SPECIAL TELEGRAM. AFFAIRS AT THE CAPE SERIOUS. THE SCOTTISH HIERARCHY. London, April 14. Later telegrams from the Cape of Good Hope state that the situation in the Transvaal is serious. ■ There was rioting in Glasgow on Saturday - the Papal allocation in reference to the 1 new hierarchy for Scotland was burnt. The rioting was renewed on Sunday, when eevera persons were injured. Twenty arrests hare been made.

The murder of the Earl of Leitrim, near Donegal, has been debated in both Houses. A disorderly scene occurred in the House of Commons, in which several of the Irish members were concerned. The reporters were excluded for three hours, owing to aspersions being cast on his Lordship’s private character. The University eight-oared race was won by Oxford by seven lengths after a severe struggle. There was heavy betting on the .result. Raudvvick, for the Chester Cup, is easier ; Cap-a-pie is advancing for the St. Leger. April 13. The money market is easier. The Bank rate is 3 per cent., and the money market rate 2-J percent; consols 95.
Australian securities are resuming their usual activity, and have advanced 1 per cent. The corn market is easier. New York, April 12, “ Boss ” Tweed died to-day. AUSTRALIAN NEWS. Sydney, Monday. A motion has been tabled in the Assembly for the release from the Paramatta Asylum of the lunatic supposed to be Arthur Orton. Typhus fever is raging in several parts of the country. ' - Melbourne, Monday. A Cabinet Council was held to-day, when three County Court Judges, three Crown Prosecutors, and eleven Stipendiary Magistrates were re-appointed. To-morrow the question as to other departments will be taken into consideration.
