' A new method, of engraving .on_ .glass., has been discovered, electricity being utilised for the purpose. ( The surface of a plate of .glass or crystal having been-covered ■ with a concentrated solution of nitrate of a horizontal platinum' wire, connected with one iof the poles-of ah electric battery,-being placed in the Hquidealong the. edges of the glass, any design . may bo easily drawn on-the other eiid of the platinum l wire. The wire forming the “ pencil ” is iusulated } '. ; the tip alone remaining uncovered, and by simply tracing imaginary Hues on the surface of the glass, the design is - permanently reproduced and distinctly engraven thereon.
