'(PER PRESS AGENCY.) Auckland, Tuesday. The Hon. Mr. Fisher proceeded to Tauranga last evening to join the Governor. The Government refunded the fine imposed on Captain Logan some time ago on account of over-loading the Hero. This decision was arrived at because the alleged offence was committed under an Australian certificate, which the Distinct Judge refused to take cognizance of, and since it has been ascertained that New Zealand certificates are recognised in Austx-alian Courts, the Government consider New Zealand should reciprocate. Grey and Sheehan proceeded to the Waikato to-day. Colonel Whitmore, at the Art 11 ry Volunteers’ inspection last night, said in order to provide some harbor defence for the colony the Government intended applying to the Imperial authorities for a number of sixtyfour pounder converted rifle guns same as those on board the Wolverine and Nymph. These, in proper positions, would make the harbors impregnable to cruisers. It was intended to entrust them to artillery volunteers, and encourage that branch of the service. A large full-rigged ship, supposed to be the Golden Sea from Melbourne, to convey Cooper and Bailey’s circus to Callao, was sighted off the Bay of Islands. Sir George Grey declined the banquet offered by the Hamilton settlers. The new Auckland Club opened to-day. Christchurch, Tuesday.
