The Underwriters’ Association report, under date London, 2nd April:—Arrived: Timaru, from Port Chalmers.

The s.s. Wakatipu sailed for Port Chalmers direct at 5.30 p.m. yesterday. The 8.9. Taranaki, from the South, will arrive here tula morning, and sail again for the North at 8 p.m. The schooner Ruby, from Kaikoura, arrived here yesterday morning with a cargo of wool and skins. She left there on Friday last, and during the tlrst portion of the trip experienced heavy N. W. gale. The barque Lanarkshire came Into her berth at the wharf yesterday, and commenced discharging during the day. The cargo is turning out in good condition. The s.s. Kiwi arrived in port early yesterday morning. but owing to tbo boisterous nature of' the weather at the time, she was unable to come alongside the wharf till daylight. She left Napier at 5 pm. on the Ist, called at Pourere, where cargo was shipped, and arrived In port as above stated. Experienced a heavy N.W. gale from Cape Pailiser to arrival. The Kiwi will sail for Napier and .East Coast stations this afternoon. The ketches Falcon and Agnes, from Patea, produce laden, came into port yesterday, the former in the morning and the latter in the afternoon. The barque Rose M. left the harbor, bound for Newcastle, yesterday morning. The weather having considerably moderated yesterday, the following steamers, which have been windbound, took their departure in the afternoon : Kennedy, for Nelson and West Coast ports : Tui, for Kaikoura and Lyttelton ; Lyttelton, for Blenheim ; and Stormbird, for Wanganui.

The s.B. Arawata arrived in port from 'Melbourne,, via the South, at 8 o’clock yesterday morning. She left Melbourne at 7 p.m. on the 27th ult, with the Suez mall, 30 aaloon and 25 steerage passengers, and 405 tons of cargo ; cleared Fort I’hillip Heads at 9.30 p.m., and passed Wilson's Promontoryatsa.ru. on the 28tb, and Swan Island at 4 p.m. next day. Ex-’ perienced fresh westerly winds the first day out, thence light X. and N.W, winds, with very thick weather, which continued until entering Foveaux Strait on the night of the 31steased.the engines to quite slow until the following morning, and arrived at Bluff Harbor at 7.30 a.m. next day; left again at 5 p.m , and arrived at Port Chalmers at 6 a.m. on the 2nd; sailed at 5 p.m, same day, and met with a strong head win'd until arrival at Lyttelton at 10 a.m. on the 3rd'; left again at 4.30 p.m., and arrived in harbor as above. She brings 120 tons cargo for Wellington. We thank Mr. Miller; purser, for files and report. The Arawata will sail for Melbourne. Tin the South, this afternoon, taking the outward Suez mail. The a.s. Star of the South sailed for Southern ports %at 6 p.m. yesterday, xvlfch about 50 tons'of general merchandise, shipped by Messrs, W. and G. Turnbull and Co. A vessel supposed to bo the F. W. Tucker, from Clarence Elver, anchored in port at half-past II last night.
