S. Co.’s ship Waitara, for London, with a cargo of wool valued at £IOO,OOO.

The time-ball may be used to-day for rating chronometers. A chronometer true on. Greenwich time would show 12h. 39min. when the ball drops. Any difference is error, plus or minus, of the chronometer. The s.s. Wanaka arrived here from Southern ports at 4.30 p. m. yesterday. She left Port Chalmers at 4 p m, on Sunday last, and arrived at Lyttelton at 10.30 a.m. on the Ist; sailed at 9 o’clock that night, and arrived here as above stated. Experienced light head ■winds from Port Chalmers to Lyttelton, thence heavy WAV', winds, with high sea. to arrival in port. The Wanaka will sail for Auckland, via the East Coast ports, to-day, at noon. The s.s. Kennedy arrived here from Nelson at 3.30 a.m. yesterday, having left there at 4.30 p.m. the previous day. Experienced strong N. W. gale and thick weather through the Strait. The Kennedy shipped a large cargo yesterday for Nelson and West Coast ports, but was unable to leave owing to the strong N.W. gale blowing. The Wanaka towed the barque Lanarkshire up to the wharf yesterday afternoon, but owing _ to the strong wind blowing she was unable to haul into her berth. ' The p.s. Manawatu sailed for Wanganui at 4 p.m. yesterday with a large cargo. The s.s. Stormbird arrived here from Wanganui at 9 o'clock yesterday morning, after a 12 hours passage. Experienced a strong N.W. gale from Kapiti to arrival. The Stormbird will sail tor Wanganni to-day. The s.s. Tui left Foxton at 7.30 p.m. on Monday, and arrived here at 5 o’clock yesterday morning. She will sail for Kaikoura and Lyttelton this evening. The brigantine F. W. Tucker arrived off the Heads on Monday, and anchored in the afternoon. She remained there all day, being unabli to beat up owing to the heavy N, W, gale prevailing. A barque also arrived at the Heads on Monday, but she was blown off during the night, and did not show up yesterday.
