EDUCATION BOARD.

The old Education Board held its final meeting on Saturday morning, when there were present—Mr. Pharazyn (Chairman), Mr. Bunny, and Mr, Toomath. FINANCIAL POSITION. Mr. Bunny explained that the Board had an available balance of £2809 14s. 2d., to meet a current expenditure, which that day amounted to £3005. He thought it unfortunate they had not known this before applying to the Government, as the Board could easily have obtained a few hundreds more if it had been known that the money would be needed. The Secretary, however, had considered that the funds would be sufficient, and it was for the Board to determine what course to adopt. If the accounts now due were paid there would be a deficit of £2OO, while it was advisable that the new Board should start with a balance in hand. There was an item of payment due for a contract just completed, and in order to , facilitate the now Board starting with some money to their account, he proposed that this item should stand over until the meeting of the new Board. ° The Secretary reminded the Board that it had a balance of £4OO to its credit in the Trust and Loan Company, which was accumulating as an insurance fund. Thera was a payment of £SO due to the Trust and Loan Company on this account, and as all the school buildings were now the property of the Government there could be no object in keeping up the fund, so he proposed that the £4OO be withdrawn. Mr. Bunny stated that the Government did not insure any of their small buildings, but in this case the properties were vested in the Education Board. He thought the matter should be left for the new Board to deal with. Mr. Toomath was also of opinion that this would bo the best course to adopt. The Chairman saw no reason why the fund should not be withdrawn. It was agreed that the matter should be referred to the new Board. It was also

decided to leave the contractor’s account referred to until Wednesday, and issue cheques for all other accounts.: . '.iv: reports. ■ The Secretary inquired whether the reports from himself i to the Board, and from the Board to the Government, should be printed. Mr. Bunny thought they should' be left to the Government, who could print them it they liked.. ' ' : V-. ■ :. ‘: .i M i The Board resolved to consider the Inspector’s report in committee, aud decide whether’ or not it should be printed. ** ,
