EDUCATION BOARD.

An adjourned meeting of the Board was held yesterday, when there were 5 present : —Mr. Pharazyn, Chairman ; Messrs. Bunny, Gisborne, and Toomath. 4

With reference to the dismissal of Mr. Dougherty, assistant-master to the Te Aro school, the Board, after consultation with its law officer, decided that Mr. Dougherty should be dismissed without notice at once. A letter was authorised to he sent to the census renumerator inquiring what number of children of school age are now in the city of Wellington. It was resolved to expend £2O on the purchase of Count de Zaba’s charts. Messrs. Gisborne and Toomath were instructed to report upon the embankment of the Terrace near the school.

It was resolved to rent the hall at the Upper Hntt temporarily for additional school accommodation.

An application from the Good Templars, for the use of a portion of the new school in Tara-naki-street for their meetings, was declined. A committee was appointed to consider the to the Minister of Education. The report is a very voluminous one. A deputation was appointed to wait on the Minister of Education this (Friday) morning, re the £7OOO, and as to a request for an additional school site for Tborndon. The meeting then terminated.
