PORIRUA RACES.
TO THE EDITOII OP THE NEW ZEALAND TIMES. Sin, —Although I was not able to get away to attend the Porirua races last Monday, I was glad to see that they came off respectably. These races, however, can never take a high standard till a better course is obtained, and which I for one hope to live to see. Country race meetings, however humble, require patronising, and should be nursed along ; they are as a rule attended quite as well as the quality of the sport they afford deserves. I feel a diffidence in thus writing to you, because I heard a good old country settler say, a few days since, that Welliington city at present was teeming with that cheap article, advice gratis.—l am, &c.. Old Wellington Sportsman.
