Ferry. —Wanaka, for Port Chalmers at 4 p.m. Passengers ior Dunedin: Messrs. Hack, Berry, Millar, Morris and family, and Mr. Beaver. The Union Company's s.s. Taupo arrived hero from “tlie South at 9.15 a.m. yesterday. She left Port Chalmers at 2 p.m. oa Monday last, and arrived in Xyttelton at 7 a.m. on Tuesday; sailed again at 4 p.m, game day, and arrived here as above stated. The -Tuupo will sail for Auckland via the East Coast to-day at noon. The s.s. Wellington arrived here from her Picton -and Nelson trip at 10 o'clock yesterday morning. She left Nelson at 7 p.m. on Monday, and arrived in Picton at 3.45 a.m. yest.-rday. Sailed again at 4 a.m., and arrived here us above. She sailed for Nelson and Picton at 2.30 p.m. yesterday. The p.s. Charles Edward arrived here from Nelson at 5.50 a.m. yesterday, after a rough trip across. ; She left there at 5 p.m. on the 4th, but on arrival at The Brother! met with a heavy S.K. gale, which compelled jher to go up Queen Charlotte Sound for shelter, left again at 12 o'clock on Tuesday night, and arrived ■bero as above stated. The Charles Edward sailed for Nelson and West Coast porta at 12.30 o’clock this morning. The ship Gatcacrc arrived at Melbourne on the 18th February. .She brought the largest general cargo ever shipped by a vessul of her size—viz., 250 tons over lier double register, which Is 1355. The Gateacro was built to the order of the wcU-kuown Liverpool lirra of Messrs. C. W. Kellock and Co., by Messrs. Doxford and Sons, of Sunderland. She is stated to be very easy and buoyant in all weathers, and sails remarkably well. The dimensions of the vessel arc Length, 231 feet; beam, 37 feet 8 inches ; depth, 22 “feet 5 inches. On this, her first voyage, she made the actual passage from land to laud in the short period of (18 days. The s.s- Tui sailed for Foxton at 5.30 p.m. yesterday. , A northerly wind springing up yesterday morning, the following vessels, bound for Pelorus Sound, took advantage of it to leave the harbor:-Great of the Wave, Saucy Lass, Mary King, Hose of Eden, and The s.s. Wakatipu, from Sydney, is expected here, tliis evening, having left there on the 2nd Jnst. The schooner Mary Anderson sailed for Picton at 5 -o’clock last evening The barque River Leven commenced discharging -cargo yesterday morning. It is coming to hand In excellent condition. Captain Williams-brig Robin Hood is announced to sail for New a tie to-morrow, to be followed by the Edwin Bassett the following day. These two good vessels carry passengers at greatly reduced rate**. The s.s, June Douglas arrived here from her Foxton and Rangitikei trip at 9.30 o'clock last night.; She left for Foxton on Monday last, and arrived there on Tuesday; sailed again at 10 o’clock yesterday morning, and arrived here as above stated. Had fine .weather on the trip down. She brings a full cargo. The Jane Douglas will sail for Foxton this afternoon ■aX 5 o'clock. The p.s. Luna arrived hero from Westport and Greymouth at C. 30 p m. yesterday. She left Greymouth on Sunday morning Just, and reached West*lort same evening; sailed again on Tuesday morning,
and arrived here as above stated. Experienced flue weather throughout Captain Bascand reports speaking the brigantine Enterprise, bound from Lyttelton to Hokitika, off Reck Point, at 6 p.m. on Tuesday. She had experienced a very S.B. gale the previous day; The Luna brinds 200 tons of coal ana 2000 firebricks. „ .... ... Tiie s.s. Grafton arrived here from Lyttelton at 10 o’clock last night, having left there at 6 0 clock the previous evening. Experienced strong head wind up. The Grafton will oil for Nelson, Westport, and Greymouth to-morrow at noon. The barque Especulartor has soiled for Newcastle. Tiie steamer Moa, at or having undergone extensive alterations and improvements on Mr. Meech s sup, made a trial trip this week, and everything was found to. be in excellent order. Since the little vessel lias been laid up a new propeller, larger than the other has been shipped,-which considerably adds to her power and speed, and no doubt will render her ;uur useful in harbor than heretofore. New bulwarks have also been added to her, the engine taken to pieces, examined, and repaired wherever needed: and the internal fittings have been thoroughly renovated. All tiie alterations, etc., have been carried out in a workmanlike style. The ironwork was supplied by Messrs. Robertson and Co., under the direction of Mr. McGregor, and the woodwork has been executed by Mr Meech. .
