PALMERSTON.
(FROM OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT.)' On Monday evening tin; Manawatu Dramatic Club gave their fifth performance before a very large audience, including many from Foxton, Feilding, and Bulls. The whole affair parsed off with great success. The Wanganui coach which used to arrive here about 9 o’clock in the evening will in future arrive in the afternoon, as the railway is oow open as far as Marton. There remains only a short section, now between Marton and Feilding to complete the line from Foxton, to Wanganui, and there is no doubt that the opening of this line through will give a great impetus to the whole district. It is a pity the Hutt-Waikanae line is not yet in existence, which would give us railway communication between Wellington and Wanganui, and no doubt eventually on to Taranaki. I do not think any provision is made for cattle traffic, and yet there is no doubt there will be a considerable amount of it, as lately we have' had some large mobs through the district. On glancing down Main-street, I could not help noticing the number of new buildmgs now going up, one of which (Mr. Warburton’s) is of brick, aud promises to be a substantial aud handsome edifice.
