DR. SOMERVILLE’S MISSION.

The noonday meeting was well attended yesterday in spite of the very unfavorable weather. The service commenced with the 92nd hymn, after which the secretary read the requests for thanksgiving and prayer, and Dr. Somerville expressed his pleasure at seeing so many requests for the former, observing that usually there was a preponderance ,'of the latter. The Bev. Mr. Paterson then offered prayer, and the choir sang with great taste the 259th'hymn, “Meet me at the fountain." Dr. Somerville then gave an address upon the name of God, and showed how in the Old Testament the word God was constantly used, but was seldom found in the New, in which a hew word was substituted for it. jesus, speaking of God, nearly always uses the words “My Father.” He showed how prayer was to be offered in the name of Jesus, and spoke of the power of that name. The choir then sang the 169th hymn. Prayer was then offered up, and after singing the 29th hymn, “Lot the lower lights be burning,” the benediction was pronounced by the Xlev. Mr. Trivett. At the evening service, notwithstanding that ‘ the weather was very unfavorable, there was a large and attentive congreg il i jn.
